Was beyond stoked to hear last week from superb net label Error Broadcast that they were getting back up on their podcast game!  This haunting mix comes from S.maharba, a relatively new producer on the scene who’s been making huge waves after his ASTOUNDING “Twin Sisters” mix for BTS Radio.  The BTS radio mix is one of LGD’s favorite mixes of 2010 so far, and this one seems to be living up to it’s predecessor after the first listen.

For the fourth installation of our mixtape series, we are glad to welcome UK producer S.Maharba. The name is notoriously surrounded with fuzzy images of pin-up girls, however not much is known of the person behind this masquerade of 1970’s sex idols. His self titled debut was released in 2008 and turned a lot of heads worldwide, eventually being re-issued on vinyl byOcular Science.

S.Maharba’s tape for EB compiles the most adventurous beat music you can find to date. Dirty L.A. is featured with Juj, Kutmah, Durlin Lurt and Leaving Records boss MatthewDavid. AEED, ichiro_ and OL from our team make another appearance, as well as EB future wunderkind iL. UK stands tall with Kato, Young Montana? and shooting stars Forest Swords. Most tracks are condensed to the very essence, looped and blurred into each other while S.Maharba lavishly embraces everything from Progressive Rock to reverb-laden Ambient: this is what makes this mix one of the best we had in a long, long while.

mymanhenri, the man behind 92bpm blog (which you should all be keeping up w/ if you’re not already, top notch beats all day!) just released his second podcast for All City.  Really dope track selection with a great variety of styles, always dig this man’s taste in beats.

So, this is my recent mix. Just a few days old. To be honest, I have this love hate relationship w/ these. Love the music. Hate to arrange it. Love it when it comes together well. Hate that I have to listen to it over and over again to realize after I should have done something different. Love the fact that ppl have sent over newness. Hate the fact that I forgot to include others on it. Love the fact that I can rant about this. Hate the fact that I AM ranting about this.
Hate the fact that when I make these, I’, always thinking of what my neighbors are thinking right now – I live in a condo… ha.
At the end of the day, I’m happy about this mix for the fact that it was requested by a boutique label a greatly admire, All City, and that it reflects the enthusiasm in music that I’ve always had: metal, hip hop, electronic and all in between. I was going to call this potentially, MPCs n Beatbreaks v2, as it was going to be a long overdue follow up to v1 (which is still available to my surprise), but I chose otherwise.Kaleidoscopic was more apt for so many reasons, many of which will come to light soon. Anyhow, enough of the soliloquy. Here’s a run down of the track listing…

Klipm0de just released their new podcast moments ago from Philly cat Sir Froderick.  Full of heaters per-usual, can always count on Klipm0de for the primobeat music.  100% original production on this one!

This week have a special kast by our Philly bredren Sir Froderick (obviously not the man in the above photo, although he’d like to think so).  He recently dropped his debut full-length titled, “Heartaches and Beatbreaks” with the Recordbreakin’ label (also Philly fam). Hailing from Asheville, NC, Two Fresh (of Lab Coat crew along w/ Bookworm and Jables) has been making HUGE waves in the live electronic scene lately.  Have had the pleasure of seeing these fine folk get rowdy on at least 5 occasions now, and I have to say they’re definitely one of the more promising producer/drummer combos in the scene right now.  Kendrick and Sherwyn‘s legitimately telepathic connection (seriously, they’re identical twins haha) combined with the hip-hop stylings of their drummer Colby make for one of the most involving, energetic live shows around.  As promotion for their upcoming US tour, here’s their newest mix for the superb label/design firm they recently signed to – Alex B and Berk Visual‘s brainchild Elm and Oak.  Keep going for more info/links…

TWO FRESH has announced their second full national tour to coincide with their first podcast release on Elm and Oak Records. The brand new mix Entitled “What Computer” includes over 30 minutes of music with several unreleased tracks.

In conjunction with the brand new mix, Two Fresh will embark on their 30 city tour starting on October 7th in Fort Collins, CO.  The tour will also make a stop on Halloween night in their hometown of Asheville, NC with an appearance at the highly anticipated Moogfest at the Asheville Civic Center with MGMT, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, DEVO, Pretty Lights, Alex B and many more, and will end with a windy city throw down in Chicago, IL on Saturday November 13th.

The tour consists of 31 shows in just 38 days all with full visual production and co-headlining performances from Mimosa.  The first leg of the tour will have Pretty Lights Music’s latest signing, MIchael Minert, supporting while the second leg will featureGramatik as the 1st of 3 acts per night.

About Grillo

Born in a coastal town in Italy with a light skin tone Grillo found himself pretty much the only kid at the beach getting constantly sun burnt and schorched. Forced to stay indoors during the hottest days of summer he developed a passion for making mixtapes on his boombox out of old tapes he found around the house. These early recordings were a mix of old italian folksingers, videogame soundtracks and long religious sermons from grandma’s collection of C-90s. Teenage years brought Grillo decks, records and software trackers, along with a passion for hip hop and sampling, the lost art of recycling applied to music.Today, in addition to regularly collaborating with local rap acts, leftfield electronica projects and rogue indie movie crews Grillo crafts his own blend of music consisting of crusty beats, vintage samples, 8-bit bleeps and field recordings: sounds like recycled crap yet an original voice somehow emerges from it all

About the EP

Angry lo fi synth lines buzz along with deep, stilted beats in I Had U Ken, Grillo’s tribute to the all american awesomeness of Street Fighter’s Ken Masters. Videogame samples and xbox live scrubs spouting profanity during online play adorn the shorter tracks, while Ken’s own in game voice is autotuned and vocoded to sing along in TaDaDa, feeling like drunken yodeling on acid. There’s also a chiptune remake of the original street fighter 2 ken theme, a nice trip down memory lane before the dark, dubby and moody Thunder Kick closes out the record with its menacing guitar riff.

BTS just released a new guest mix from 19yr old, UK-based Young Montana.  Heaps of fresh tracks on this one, including a new jam from the infamous Hudson Mohawke.  Keep going for info/tracklist/links

Playful loops, glitches and bubbling bass, Young Montana? is yet another example of a new wave ready to be taken seriously. Jon Pritchard is the 19-year-old producer behind the Young Montana? pseudonym, and his fast forward career has been catching a lot of insider attention.

Hailing from Conventry, the West Midlands region of England, Pritchard falls into the circle of artists recently featured on BTS, like Shlohmo, Letherette and S.Maharba, who’ve seem to come out of nowhere and raise the electronic playing field.

Earlier this year, Mary Anne Hobbs dubbed him her “favorite unsigned artist of 2010” and shortly after, the MAH/Los Angeles connection led to a signing with Daddy Kev’s Alpha Pup label. Pretty good for someone who’s only been making music on his own for about a year.

In what’s sure to be considered another BTS essential, Young Montana? drops this fantastic mix for Andrew Meza’s BTS Radio.

His debut LP has no set release date.
